Obsolescence Management:

In practice, the product lifecycle of a technical plant is often longer than the availability of spare parts. Every day, products are discontinued worldwide by manufacturers, so their end of life is announced. This affects not only the plant manufacturer, but also the operator of the plant. However, a few years ago, it was still common practice to have critical components in stock, but warehousing was ousted from aspects of stock-keeping costs, tied capital and just-in-time availability among manufacturers.
